Aliens: Fireteam Elite is out today alongside a brand new launch trailer. Developed by Cold Iron Studio and 20th Century Games, the collaboration brings the series back to the spotlight. Aliens: Blackout released as a mobile game in 2019. Now Aliens: Fireteam Elite is here in Unreal Engine 4, acting as a sequel to the original trilogy.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a multiplayer third-person shooter set in the canon universe. As a cooperative shooter, you team up with two other players to take on intense swarms of Xenomorphs. Playing as a Colonial Marine, you get to customize your own character. Different classes, gear and weapons, and numerous perks are all up for grabs. The day one patch for Aliens: Fireteam Elite includes horde mode and special optimizations for graphics. The team also plans on putting out more post-launch content, such as the start of Season One on September 8, alongside a new character class called Phalanx. Players can also expect other new rewards and gear with these post-launch updates.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite has launched to lukewarm reviews so far. The game sticks to the tried-and-tested co-op shooter formula, which may not be to everyone’s tastes. There’s also a scarce amount of content at launch, even though the developers have promised to release more in the near future. Reviewers do cite how fun the formula is nonetheless, despite the shortcomings. And as for whether or not this is a true Alien game, the answer will always be subjective. If you have your eye on the game, dive into previews and reviews of the game online, or jump in headfirst.
