Gabe Newell, head of Valve, sat down for an interview at Sancta Maria College in Auckland, New Zealand. A member of the audience asked Newell if we would ever see Steam games ported to consoles. Newell didn’t give a definitive answer, instead teasing that he would have more information on the topic “by the end of this year.” So it’s possible we’ll learn more once the Valve CEO is ready to share additional news down the line.
This is potentially exciting, as we could see a number of excellent Steam-exclusive games ported to console, such as beloved classics like Half-Life. It’s not clear if Newell meant we would see updated ports for titles like Portal 2 with older console releases on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. We could simply see multiplatform releases on both Steam and console going forward.
