After launching in April this year, NieR Replicant has just hit a significant milestone. The latest action RPG from Square-Enix has shipped over a million copies, either physical or digital copies sold. Similarly, the previous title in the franchise, NieR: Automata, has shipped over six million copies now, also either physical or digital copies sold. The NieR team made the announcement on their official Twitter page.

NieR: Automata reached over a million copies shipped or sold not long after its release in 2017, and it looks like NieR Replicant follows the same trend. NieR: Automata helped to bring the once-niche NieR franchise into the greater conversation. NieR Replicant brings added attention to the original NieR, which Replicant is a remake of.

Things are looking bright for the NieR series. With the upcoming Western release of NieR Reincarnation on mobile, and the YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse raids featuring in Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers, it looks like we’ll be seeing more from the franchise as time goes on. This also opens doors for Square-Enix to take a look at the Drakengard franchise, which the NieR games are a spin-off of. The Drakengard trilogy would make for an interesting remaster or remake project to help breathe life back into the series.

If you haven’t already, check out our review of NieR Replicant, and our retrospective on the original NieR.

NieR Replicant and NieR: Automata are currently available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
