Nintendo just announced the latest addition to the Switch family with the Nintendo Switch OLED model. This version upgrade of the Switch brings a few new features, such as a 7-inch OLED screen on the handheld, a wide adjustable stand for tabletop mode, and enhanced audio. The new OLED screen has more vivid colors for a better look and feel while playing in handheld mode. The system also comes with 64 GB of storage for saving your downloaded games and other files. In addition to the enhanced audio from the handheld’s speakers, this latest model also has a built-in LAN port for plugging in your ethernet cable for a wired connection.

Releasing October 8, 2021, the Nintendo Switch OLED model joins in with the Nintendo Switch Lite and the launch version of the Switch. Available for $349.99 USD, the OLED model comes in either black and white, or the traditional black, blue, and red colors. Other features such as additional controllers and Nintendo Switch Online are still sold separately.

Despite the rumors, the Nintendo Switch OLED is not a Nintendo Switch “Pro” upgrade, similar to the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. These features simply would have been nice to have from the base system at launch. Anyone who already owns a Switch might not see enough reasons to grab this upgrade. Instead, this looks to be a solid option for anyone who’s yet to purchase the system.
